Draye Redfern and Colton Jarisch represented SEU at the National Collegiate Cycling Association Championships this month in Fort Collins, Colo.

Colton and Draye each competed in the road race and the crit. This is the first year for SEU cycling, and it’s pretty amazing to have the team send riders to nationals. Congratulations to Colton and Draye for making it there.

Saturday rides – 5/24

We’re going to try starting up the Saturday morning rides.

This Saturday, meet outside the library.

We roll out at 8:30 a.m.

If there’s a big turnout we’ll do multiple rides, but plan on 35 miles, easy, out to Bee Caves and back.

Another great weekend for racing as our nascent team churned out some impressive results and some might even dare say…dominated ..during the Men’s B crit on sunday.

Results

Men’s A (USAC Category 3 and up) results:

Colton Jarisch – 4th in time trial (30 min 37 sec)

Men’s B (USAC Category 3 and 4) results:

Clark Hanley – 11th in road race, 11th in time trial (34 min 23 sec), 14th in criterium
Colton Jarisch – 2nd in the criterium
Draye Redfern – 3rd in road race, 2nd in time trial (31 min 27 sec), 1st in criterium
Jake Adams – 7th in road race, 18th in time trial (35 min 54 sec), 9th in criterium

Men’s C (USAC Category 5) results:

Ben Palmer – 29th in time trial (39 min 50 sec), 29th in criterium, officials didn’t count him for some reason but he was in the road race for sure. ; )
Zzane Guajardo – 21st in road race, 33rd in time trial (41 min 13 sec), 32nd in criterium
Rafael Trujillo – 17th in criterium

MS 150 Packet Pickup and Inspection

With less than a month to go till the MS 150, packet pick-ups have begun. There appears to be two times to pick up your packet, with the first one being this Tuesday at the Bob Bullock Museum.

Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum @ Austin – Tues., March 18, 4 – 7 p.m.
National MS Society – Austin @ 9600 N. Mopac, Ste. 150, Wed., April 9, 4 – 7 p.m.

Also if you get your get your bike to pass a safety inspection you are entitled to free entitling riders to free labor for repairs during the ride. Inspections are free until April 4 and $10 after.

The closest location to St. Eds seems to be the Bicycle Sport Shop on S. Lamar, through the full list of inspection shops can be found here

Tunis – Roubaix X

Last saturday brought some great weather and some terrible roads to kick off SEU’s collegiate cycling career as 5 of your team members tackled the Tunis- Roubaix X hosted by the A + M cycling team.

However as the race’s took off it became more apparent that the race was less about racing against other collegiate teams but rather against the course itself. Zane in his first race flatted after almost finishing with the worst section of the “texturized” cement/dirt/gravel road. Draye flatted as well and ended up getting in a crash in the dirt.

After being dropped after two 11 mile laps out of the field Clark and Jake gave one more lap a try before leaving the race. As Jake put it “Imagine mounting a bike saddle on a jackhammer while holding onto another jackhammer for your bars. That was the feel from atop my machine.”

Ben stuck through the 4 laps of the C race luckily avoiding any flats.

Cycling sensation Colton Jarisch wound up taking 2nd in the B race finishing strong on the final hill. Check out the video of coltons finish, and photos by stephen where your team mates do their best Michael Jordon impression.

Weekly Rides – they’re back

We’re getting the weekly rides back on the road this Saturday.

Place: Library parking lot
Time: 8:30 a.m.
What to bring: A bike, a helmet, a spare inner tube, water, and the desire to ride 20 miles (B group) or 40 miles (A group).

All are welcome. Come out and join us.
